The overall working area in windows is known as desktop. Desktop is the backdrop in which icon, shortcut bar and application resides. When we open a program or a file, it appears in the windows on desktop.
Icons are second basic elements of desktop area. Icons are small pictures or symbols that represent document, application, and folder with its own individual name under it.
The task bar is a long horizontal bar located at the bottom of the screen.Each time we start a program or open a document a button represents that window appears on the task bar. We can switch between windows by just clicking the button for the window we want.
The start menu is a button through which we can access the entire list of option of programs that windows offer. If we click on it, a list of menus representing different programs will be displayed.
- My computer
It is a system folder that appears as an icon on the desktop. It allows you to browse all the disks that are physically attached to your computer.
- My Document
- Recycle Bin
It is a system folder in which windows XP stores the items which you deleted. It is just like the dustbin. You can restore the deleted file or you can delete them forever. The files that you delete from removable media such as floppy disks or pen drive are not sent to the recycle bin and therefore, cannot be restored.
- Right click anywhere in the desktop to bring the menu.
- Select Arrange icon by option.
- Select any one option through which you want to arrange the icon.
